Back to the 70’s – Latest Diamond Trends

We are finding in more uncertain economic times, people are not putting off getting engaged, but they may be adjusting the size of their centre diamond. Here in WA, since the mining boom has slowed down, we are finding that people are moving from the 1.00 ct centre back down to the 0.70 ct. The 0.70 ct is a great size and a great price point for most people  with a 0.70 ct Round Brilliant Cut Diamond costing anywhere from $3,420 up to $5,200 depending on the quality. This means you can get a ring in 18 ct gold for under $5,000 in total with a really nice size centre. We are also finding the average budget for an engagement ring is staying fairly steady at between $5,000 – $7,000. One thing that is not changing is the quality of the diamond with most sales around the E – G colour range and SI-VS Clarity for the centre diamond.

The most popular shape is still the Round Brilliant cut. The second most popular shape has seen a change of the guard as the cushion cut has over taken the princess cut in recent times. This will have a bit to do with the current popularity of antique styles which work particularly well with the cushion cut.
